Geger Beach is perhaps one of the best beach in southern Bali area, located in Sawangan Village and just around 2 kilometers away from ITDC Nusa Dua. In Geger Beach, the beachfront is shared closely with Bali National Golf Club Nusa Dua and also with other luxurious 5-stars hotels like St. Regis Bali and Mulia Resort. The entrance cost was acceptable, around 5000 IDR for motorcycle rider and probably cost more for car driver.
Here is my impression during my first time visit to Geger Beach, the sands is quite clean in most area and it cover large space, this should be more than enough when accommodating huge swarm of visitors. There are two entrances to enter Geger Beach, the first one is just beside Mulia Hotel and then the second entrance is near street bridge around Hilton Bali Resort.
Most Geger Beach area are open or accessible to public, but private property like hotel is an exception. Litter or rubbish are rarely seen here since they cleaned regularly by the beach janitors and nearby hotel staffs. The sand is gold colored, thick and packed dense enough so you can play some sport games like volleyball, futsal or leisurely do some running on the beach.

There a couple of café and bars around the shore area, which became usual places for little night party. The party was held here occasionally where tourist, expat and local villager can join in the fun. You might get a good deal during this event, because the meal and drink packages are often sold at discounted prices. Various facilities like beach bed, deck chair and umbrella can be rented cheaply for whole day. The rental cost can vary which depend on the chosen goods and you can always do some bargaining with the renter. On top of the cliff, a Hindu Temple called Geger Temple was built, it stood high above the sea just like a loyal watcher. This slightly resemble a famous temple from Pecatu Village called Uluwatu Temple.
While walking around you might be able to see few seaweed rattan webbing built by local seaweed farmer from Sawangan Village. Most farmer usually working bellow the clifftop area but unfortunately seaweed farming is getting rarer years by years in Geger Beach. When swimming be sure to choose a place with less rocks and coral reef on the surface, because those things can hurt your sole foot when stepped. During high tide period, the waves are rolling powerfully in some area while in other part it just move in gentle manner. There are not many boats on the beach and I think this will create a comfortable swimming experience for all visitors.

The sea wave and water current grow increasingly more intense as you swim further into the ocean direction (east). In other words it increasingly become more dangerous as you swimming away and gradually put more distant from the shore, I know it because I once experienced it before in Geger Beach. It feel like the water current was slowly dragging me away into the ocean and such thrilling experience is very hard to forget. On other side Geger Beach can be a good beach for surfer community, maybe the wave here is not as strong as Kuta or Uluwatu Beach but it should be enough especially for newbie surfer.
Most western tourist love sunbath and several people sunbathing here is the normal view of Geger Beach on daily basis, they usually do this in front of restaurant or bar area. While resting on sunbed, sometimes middle-aged woman will come to offer you their massaging service with affordable prices. They usually do the massage using Balinese traditional herbal scrub called Boreh, a yellowish or greenish thick substance that have very strong spices aroma. Depend on ingredients, this Boreh can feel from just slightly warm to blazing hot on your skin. Overall Geger Beach is a quiet yet fun beach, ideal for many activities like jogging, swimming, fishing and sunbathing until the sun goes down.

Picture above is south entrance of Geger Beach which located next to Mulia Hotel, just park your motorbike or car on parking lot and then you’re good to go. Upon entering you will arrive at a small bar and in front of that there are numerous sunbeds with umbrellas above it. In here you can order some food and drink to recharge your energy or maybe lying on sunbed while getting a massage is another way to enjoy your day.

Unlike Kuta Beach which always packed with crowd most of the time, meanwhile Geger Beach is much quieter in comparison. During normal day you may see not much people wandering around and there no loud music can be heard blasting your ears. Definitely a nice beach for those who seek peaceful ambience and this place may allow you to momentary forget hardship for a moment.

Below Geger Temple cliff, there water spring which form a river-like view and the water is flowing endlessly to the sea. During high tide period this river will be flooded with much more water than in picture above.

Here is the walking pathway that resemble a bay, you might see several people siting or taking pictures on here. Beach visitors usually prefer this place for idling, just sitting and gazing into sea horizon. And then when the water tide rise, many fisherman will use this place as a fishing spot.

Just behind pavement pathway there a short bridge which connect places between northern Geger Beach and Geger Temple. After crossing that short bridge afterward you will face an inclined walking path. Just ascend it and then you will arrive soon at Geger Temple in just 2-3 minutes. Along the way, there exist a small garden on the side area of that inclined walking path.

After arrived on the top of the cliff you will immediately see Geger Temple. And outside of that temple, a large resting place called Wantilan was built on here. Wantilan is the place where Balinese Hindu can rest and also a place where they can prepare prayer offering like canangsari, kewangen, incense, etc before praying inside Geger Temple.

Picture above is parking lot of southern Geger Beach, yet another entrance into the Geger Beach. This entrance is located between Mulia and Hilton Hotel and beware there couple of monkeys roaming along the road. The cost to enter is the same as north entrance around 5000 IDR per person but it have more parking space for vehicles.

This is pictures of Geger Beach viewed from above, it was taken on top of the cliff during morning time near parking lot. On here you can view from above the whole Geger Beach and see far into the ocean horizon. People that come here in the morning usually like to do some exercises like jogging or swimming and morning fresh air will make all visitors feel great.

Geger Beach is further divided into two area and in the last picture we will talk about southern Geger Beach. For swimmer that want more challenge, southern Geger Beach will definitely fulfill it. In here water current is stronger and have more powerful rolling wave compared to northern Geger Beach. But on other side, swimming here is also become more dangerous especially when you swim far away into the ocean direction (east). Because of frequent strong waves blow to the cliff, it formed a small cave-like curve just below that cliff.
